Clearing out your kitchen this Christmas

Top tips for clearing out your kitchen this Winter

As we approach Christmas, the season of delicious food, we want to make sure your kitchen is ready for anything. Entertaining can be a big ask in the festive season – especially if your kitchen isn’t quite ready for that. So, if you’re looking to give your living space a clear-out in preparation for Christmas, follow these simple steps.

1. To keep or not to keep?

If we could keep our kitchens at showroom standard, there’s no doubt we would, but daily life means keeping it spotless can be hard. The first step to a cleaner kitchen is to decide: to keep or not to keep? What’s in your cupboard that’s been there for months but never been used? Parting with your things can be hard sometimes, but the clutter has got to go! Get rid of everything you don’t use by either giving it away to a friend or family member, to charity or if it’s complete scrap, bin it. Put anything you’re keeping in a separate pile to re-arrange.

2. Spring clean: The Winter edition

Spring cleaning doesn’t just apply for spring. In fact, it should happen regularly. Spend time cleaning your appliances, floor and walls. Stains from grubby hands or food spillage can quickly turn your kitchen into a messy space. Make it a habit to clean after yourself – get the whole house involved too! Quick tip for floors: Wooden floor takes well to a homemade mix of white vinegar and water for a natural fresh smell and lasting shine, whilst baking soda has been known for multi-purpose cleaning from sport shoes to kitchen tiles.

3. One step at a time

Cleaning can be a tedious job, particularly if there’s a lot to do. Spending some time clearing out your kitchen (depending what suits your schedule best) can help break down the workload. Spread out cleaning, throwing away and reorganising across days and watch your living space slowly transform!

4. Maintaining your kitchen

It’s one thing to thoroughly clean from floor to ceiling, but another to maintain it. A clean kitchen won’t stay clean if you don’t work to maintain it. Consider how your kitchen once was, and now how it looks after clearing it out – if you want to keep it that way, adapt cleanliness into your daily lifestyle and enjoy your living space!
